Infection Control Curriculum

The Dental Educator Proudly Presents:

“Theory of Infection Control for the Dental Healthcare Worker”

This intense, three week course has been designed to prepare those who complete the course, to sit the DANB Infection Control Examination, (ICE). Topics to be covered are briefly outlined below:

WEEK 1: DATE AND TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED

The Bloodborne Pathogen Standard and the CDC guidelines for infection control in dentistry will be reviewed in detail. Disease transmission, factors of infection, use of PPE and employee/employer obligations in the prevention of disease will be discussed. Related vocabulary will be provided each week as well as review/practice questions.

WEEK 2 DATE AND TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED

Techniques regarding how to prevent cross-contamination of patient items will be presented. Proper and detailed disinfection information of environmental surfaces, instrument processing procedures and numerous sterilization options will be the main focus.

WEEK 3: DATE AND TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED

The Hazard Communication Standard for dentistry will be reviewed. Some of the crucial topics included will be complying with MSDS records, staff safety training, and work practice controls. This final week will also include in-depth discussion of miscellaneous areas such as latex allergies and biohazardouswaste disposal. Finally, a review and discussion of all topics will be provided.

**Please arrive early Week 1 for registration and distribution of materials.
